Psychiatric Support and Referral Process
Psychiatric Support and Referral Process
Psychiatric Support and Referral Process
While you are receiving individual counseling at the Psychological Support Unit (PSU), your clinical psychologist may refer you to the university’s contracted external psychiatrist if they determine that you could benefit from psychiatric assessment or treatment. In such cases, your support will be coordinated between the PSU and the psychiatrist.
How Does the Referral Process Work?
To access university-subsidized psychiatric services, you must be actively receiving support from the PSU and be referred following your clinical psychologist’s professional assessment. Students who are not receiving counseling at the PSU, or who request a referral without a supporting professional assessment, are not eligible for referral under this arrangement.
If you feel that you need psychiatric support, you can discuss this with your clinical psychologist. If you are not currently receiving support from our unit, you can first apply to the PSU to begin the assessment process. The referral decision is made after your clinical psychologist has assessed your needs.
What to Do Before Your Appointment
Following your referral, your clinical psychologist will share the psychiatrist’s contact details and explain how to book an appointment. Your clinical psychologist will also notify the contracted psychiatrist of the referral.
Before your psychiatric appointment, you must visit the PSU office on Level -3 of the Student Center to collect your referral document bearing an original handwritten signature. You must bring this document to your appointment and submit it to the psychiatrist.
Fees
When attending your appointment, please state that you have been referred by Özyeğin University and submit your referral document to receive psychiatric support under the university’s agreed fee arrangement. Under this arrangement, the university covers most of the consultation fee, and students pay only a small contribution.
If you do not present your referral document at the appointment or consult the psychiatrist without a PSU referral, you will be responsible for the full consultation fee. The university does not cover the cost of these consultations.
Managing Your Appointments
University-subsidized psychiatric support covers a limited number of appointments. Students are responsible for scheduling and keeping track of their appointments.
