ÖzU English Language Support Center

There are three centers working under the Support Center: Study Center, Speaking Center and Writing Center. While the Writing Center provides support only to students who are in their departments, the other two centers aim to support and guide all students registered in the Preparatory Program and departments with their English skills outside class hours. In order to improve themselves in the areas they need (reading, listening, writing, speaking, grammar, vocabulary and study skills), students make appointments and meet with the instructors working in these centers through the existing appointment system. Instructors not only help students in areas where they are weak or which they want to improve, but also provide the necessary support to help students discover their weak areas and how they should study to improve them.

OzU Writing Center

OzU Writing Center began to operate during 2013-2014 Academic Year within the body of School of Languages. The center having been located on B2 floor of the Library until recently is now offering services in its new premises on the ground floor of the Library in room G12-I. Our center gives support to all the undergraduate students (and graduate students depending on the availability) in areas listed below:

• improving academic writing skills in English (e.g. citing, referencing, analyzing, paraphrasing and so on.)
• giving feedback on the assignments, research papers, projects that the students are given by their departments,
• checking application forms for job, internship and education opportunities in terms of clarity, format, lexical and grammatical accuracy; thus, guiding the students,
• arranging presentations and writing workshops for students in small groups to improve their academic writing skills in general and in the areas where they experience difficulty.

OzU Writing Center, as was before the Covid-19 days, is continuing offering support to all the undergraduate students with their departmental writing assignments (e.g. papers, essays, projects, and so on) in terms of language structure, word usage, punctuation, i.e. anything related to language skills and organization.

When students would like to get support, all they need to do is to go to the Writing Center LMS page and choose one of the consultants and the time slots on the schedule, which suits them best and sign up for a one-to-one Zoom meeting.
