Robotics Laboratory Internship Artificial Tissue Development for Surgical Robotics
Robotics Laboratory Internship Artificial Tissue Development for Surgical Robotics
Robotics Laboratory Internship Artificial Tissue Development for Surgical Robotics
Format: On-site laboratory work (possible hybrid for data analysis and documentation)
Number of Interns (Quota): 2
Duration of the Internship: 5-8 weeks
Start Date: 15 June 2026
Finish Date: 21 August 2026
Application Deadline: 31 May 2026
Project Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Ozkan Bebek
Project Description: Interns will work on artificial tissue models, bio-inspired artificial skin, and 3D-printed tissue scaffolds for biomedical and robotic applications. The focus is on designing, fabricating, and characterizing materials that mimic the mechanical and tactile properties of real human tissues.
Project Tasks: Material selection and preparation (hydrogels, biopolymers, composites); fabrication of artificial tissues/skin/scaffolds; 3D printing and prototyping; integration of embedded sensors; mechanical and functional testing (elasticity, porosity, tensile/strain behavior); data analysis and reporting.
Requirements:
The applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Enrollment in an undergraduate engineering program
- Completion of at least 150 ECTS credits
- GPA of 3.00 or higher OR:
- Mechanical Engineering (ME) students: Grade of A in at least one of the following courses: Mechanical Design, Control Systems
- Electrical Engineering (EE) students: Grade of A in at least one of the following courses: Signals and Systems, Control Systems
- Computer Science (CS) students: Grade of A in at least one of the following courses: Algorithms and Data Structures, Machine Learning
- Biomedical / Materials Engineering: Grade of A in at least one relevant mechanics or materials course (e.g. Biomaterials, Solid Mechanics, Materials Science)
- OR grade of A in a Robotics course
