Hüsnü M. Özyeğin, Chairman of the Board of Trustees
Hüsnü M. Özyeğin was graduated from Robert Academy in 1963 and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University in 1967. In 1969, he obtained an MBA degree from Harvard Business School. He served at Pamukbank as a Board Member between 1974 and 1977, and as General Manager and Board Member between 1977 and 1984. From 1984 to 1987, Mr. Özyeğin took up several positions at Yapı Kredi Bank as Vice Chairman, Managing Director, and General Manager. In October 1987, he founded Finansbank and was Chairman of Finansbank between 1987 and 2010. Today Mr. Özyeğin still continues to serve as Chairman of Fiba Holding, Fibabank, and Credit Europe Bank (Suisse) and as Board Member of Credit Europe Bank (Russia). Hüsnü M. Özyeğin is also Chairman of the Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation, Board Member of the Mother Child Education Foundation, Advisory Board Member of TESEV, Board of Trustees Member of the Community Volunteers Foundation and Member of the Board of Dean’s Advisors of Harvard Business School.
Prof. Dr. Hasan Pirkul, Member of the Board of Trustees
Prof. Dr. Hasan Pirkul received his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from Bogazici University in 1977. He obtained his Master's Degree and PhD in Administrative Sciences and Computer-Information Systems, respectively, from the University of Rochester. He served as Academic Director for Information Systems at the College of Business, as a professor of Accounting and Information Systems and as Founding Director of the Center for Information Technologies at Ohio State University. He has received the “Annual Award for Outstanding Contribution to Education” from the Greater Dallas Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, the Outstanding Educator Award from the Greater Dallas Asian-American Chamber of Commerce and the Technologist of the Year Award from the Texas Technology Magazine. He served as a founding member of the Technology Business Council of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce. Since 1996, he has been serving as the Dean of the School of Management at Texas University- Dallas.
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Toner, Member of the Board of Trustees
Prof. Mehmet Toner obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University and his Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 1989, he received his Ph.D. in Medical Engineering at the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology. He is presently a professor of surgery at the Harvard Medical School and at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and a professor of Health Sciences and Technology at Harvard-MIT. He also serves as Director of the MGH Bio-Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems Resource Center and as Director of the Biomedical Engineering Research and Education Program at Harvard Medical School’s teaching hospitals. In addition, he is actively involved in the management of various biotechnology firms that he has founded.
Prof. Dr. Süha Özkan, Hon F AIA, Board Member
Prof. Dr. Süha Özkan obtained his bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Architecture and graduated as an architect from Middle East Technical University in 1967. He was later promoted to associate professorship and full professorship at the same university. He was appointed as Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at Middle East Technical University in 1978 and Vice Rector in 1979, respectively. Prof. Özkan has also held several positions in a rich variety of architecture competitions, universities, academic institutions and other architectural organizations, both at home and abroad. He served as Secretary General of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture (1982-2007), Council Member of the Union of International Architects (UIA) (2002-2008), and President of the UIA 2005 Istanbul Congress. Prof. Süha Özkan is the founding chairman of the World Architecture Community and the only Turkish Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. In 1994, he received the Outstanding Professional Contribution Award of the Turkish National Architecture Awards. He also organized several international competitions and served multiple times as Chair of the panel of judges. Prof. Özkan has authored 12 books and more than 400 articles in several languages.
Prof. Dr. Esra Gençtürk, Rector
Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Southern California in 1981. She earned her MBA and PhD in Marketing from the University of Minnesota in 1983 and in 1990, respectively. Dr. Gençtürk was on the Marketing and International Business Faculty of the University of Texas at Austin between 1989 and 1996 and was a full-time faculty member at the Koç University College of Administrative Sciences and Economics from 1996 to 2009.
In addition to her award-winning research and articles published in international refereed journals, Prof. Gençtürk also served on the editorial boards of the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of International Marketing, Journal of International Management and Advances in International Marketing.
Prof. Gençtürk served as Vice President of Communications for the American Marketing Association Global Special Interest group for two consecutive terms between 2005 and 2010, and was elected as its Chair as of 2011.
Dr. Ömer A. Aras, Member of the Board of Trustees
Dr. Ömer Aras obtained his MBA in 1978 and Ph.D. in 1981 from Syracuse University. Between 1981 and 1984 he served as a faculty member for the College of Business of the Ohio State University. Between 1984 and 1987 he worked at Citibank, Istanbul as a Credit Marketing Manager and a Credit Committee member. Dr. Aras participated in the founding of Finansbank in 1987, and served as Assistant General Manager for two years and as General Manager for six years. Dr. Aras also worked as Managing Director of Finansbank and Vice Chairman of Fiba Holding till December 2006. Dr. Aras was on the Board of TUSIAD between 2003 and 2007. He is presently Chairman and Group CEO Finansbank.
Dr. Erkut Yücaoğlu, Member of the Board of Trustees
Dr. Erkut Yucaoglu received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Robert College (now Boğaziçi University) in 1969. He obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University in 1971 and in 1973, respectively. As the Founder of the Boğaziçi University Industrial Engineering Department, he served as Department Head between 1974 and 1976. From 1999 to 2000, he chaired the Executive Board of TUSIAD. He is currently Vice Chairman of the Supreme Advisory Council of TUSIAD and Chairman of the MAP/TURKUAZ Group.
Murat Özyeğin, Member of the Board of Trustees
Murat Özyeğin received his B.Sc. degree with Double Major in Industrial Management and Economics from Carnegie Mellon University in 1998. He started his career at Bear Stearns & Co. Inc., New York, U.S. as a Financial Analyst within the Mergers & Acquisition Group. In 2000, he was appointed to Senior Analyst position at the London office of the same company. Having completed his M.B.A at Harvard University in 2003, Murat Özyeğin returned to Turkey where he started to play an active role in the management of family companies. He established the Strategy and Business Development Departments of Finansbank and Fiba Holding. Since 2006, he has been serving as an Executive Board Member of Fiba Holding and Fina Holding. He is also currently responsible for the business development and management of non-banking businesses of Fiba Group. He is presently an Executive Board member of Endeavor Turkey, World Wildlife Fund, and Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation, and a member of Turkish Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association.
Ayla Göksel, Member of the Board of Trustees
Ayla Göksel obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Politics from the University of Bath. She received her Master's Degree in Development Economics from the London School of Economics. She completed her thesis on partnerships among sectors at the John Hopkins Institute for Policy Studies with an international research scholarship and conducted studies at the Hauser Center of Harvard University as a guest researcher. She began to work with the foundation of ACEV (Mother and Child Education Foundation) in 1993. She currently serves as Vice Chairman of ACEV. She is also Managing Director of Husnu M. Özyeğin Foundation, Executive Board Member of the TOHUM Foundation, and Executive Board Member of the Education Reform Initiative. She was selected a “Young Global Leader” and a “Senior Fellow” by the World Economic Forum and Synergos Institute in 2008 and in 2009, respectively.
