Özyeğin University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Murat Uysal Has Been Honored with the World Renowned "Mustafa Prize"

Prof. Dr. Murat Uysal, the Founding Head of the Department of Electrical-Electronics Engineering at Özyeğin University and Director of the Center of Excellence for Optical Wireless Communications Technologies (OKATEM), has been named one of the five laureates of the 2023 Mustafa Prize. This prestigious award is often referred to as the Nobel Prize of the Islamic World and is presented by the Iran Mustafa Science and Technology Foundation. Since 2015, the awards have been presented biennially to recognize researchers who have made substantial contributions to enhancing human life, facilitated significant and advanced inventions, or introduced new scientific methods in the scientific world through their research. Prof. Dr. Uysal was honored with the prestigious Mustafa Prize in the category of “Information and Communication Science and Technology” in recognition of his research on optical wireless communications.

Over the past years, distinguished academicians like Prof. Dr. Sami Erol Gelenbe, Prof. Dr. Uğur Şahin, Prof. Dr. Ümran İnan, and Prof. Dr. Cumrun Vafa have received the Mustafa Prize. This prestigious award is awarded to outstanding researchers and scholars from member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in four distinct categories. These categories are as follows: "Life and Medical Science and Technology," "Nanoscience and Nanotechnology," "Information and Communication Science and Technology," and "Basic and Engineering Sciences”.

The award ceremony took place in the city of Isfahan, Iran on October 2, 2023.
