Biography

Dr. Göktürk Poyrazoğlu serves as the Chair of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Özyeğin University, Director of the Grid Operations and Planning Laboratory, and Head of the Integrated Energy Initiative. He has 9 years of academic experience and 4 years of industry experience.

He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo. In the United States, he worked as a scientist at Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories (MERL) in Boston, as a Power Systems Consultant at AlevoAnalytics in Charlotte, and as a scientist in Grid Operations and Planning at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). Since 2017, he has been serving as a faculty member at Özyeğin University.

His industry-oriented project experience focuses on the integration of new technologies into electric power systems, sustainable and renewable energy generation, industrial energy efficiency, e-mobility infrastructure, flexibility assessment in energy systems, and energy economics. He is the recipient of the 2022 Higher Education Council (YÖK) University–Industry Collaboration Outstanding Achievement Award. 

He has led the following university–industry collaboration projects:

  • New Energy Markets at the Energy Exchange Istanbul (the first green certificate project in Türkiye)
  • Energy Storage in Distribution Systems (the first energy storage implementation in Türkiye)
  • Renewable Energy Economics (Germany)
  • Energy Efficiency in Distribution Systems
  • Electric Vehicles and the E-Mobility Initiative
  • Smart Electric Vehicle Charging Pricing 

He has supervised 28 M.S. thesis students and 1 Ph.D. student. He is the author or co-author of more than 50 research articles and conference papers published in leading international journals and presented at international conferences.
