Ethics Board
As a graduate student, you are required to comply with applicable ethical standards when conducting research as part of your thesis or dissertation. Experiments, studies, and field research involving human participants or conducted on human participants are evaluated by the Özyeğin University Human Research Ethics Committee with respect to health, safety, human rights, applicable legislation, general principles of law, and ethical considerations. The Ethics Committee follows the ethical principles and codes of conduct established by the Turkish Psychological Association (TPD) and the American Psychological Association (APA).
You must obtain Ethics Committee approval for all studies, research, and investigations involving human participants conducted as part of your thesis or dissertation. Prior approval is required before respective study begins, and you may begin the study only after approval has been granted. For more information about the Ethics Committee approval process, please visit the Human Research Ethics Committee webpage.
If your thesis/dissertation research does not require Ethics Committee approval, your thesis/dissertation advisor and you must complete and sign the Declaration of Exemption from Ethics Committee Review for Thesis/Dissertation and submit it to the Graduate School.
Similarly, if your thesis/dissertation research involves materials or other content whose use requires permission (such as photographs, tables, figures, questionnaires, or datasets), or materials subject to intellectual property rights, all necessary permissions must be obtained before the study begins. In such cases, you are required to submit the Declaration Regarding Information and Materials Used in the Thesis/Dissertation to the Graduate School, confirming that you have obtained all necessary permissions for copyrighted or patented materials included in your thesis/dissertation. For research conducted within an external institution or organization, a protocol must be mutually signed by the University and the relevant institution or organization. All Ethics Committee approvals and permission letters required for your thesis/dissertation must be submitted in full to the Graduate School before your thesis/dissertation defense, either by you or by your thesis/dissertation advisor.
