Scholarship Continuity and Termination Conditions

GRADUATE SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP RULES

 TUITION WAIVERS/DISCOUNTS

·       Turkish nationals or international students admitted to the graduate programs of the Graduate School of Social Sciences can be awarded tuition waivers of 10% to 100% with the recommendation of the respective Department and the approval of the Graduate School Executive Board. All scholarships are subject to the approval of the Rector. The continuity of scholarship is reviewed at the end of each semester or the summer session based on the recipient’s overall academic performance as well as particular performance in the Academic Practice (AP 570) course by the Graduate School Executive Board upon the recommendation of the respective Department. As a result of this review, scholarships can be decreased or terminated with the resolution of the Graduate School Executive Board.

·       25% for the top three graduates of each undergraduate program of the faculties and schools at Özyeğin University,

·       25% for students who graduated from the undergraduate programs of Özyeğin University

·       25% for FİBA Employees and their children (provided that they provide the proof of their eligibility at the beginning of each semester.)

  • Full tuition waiver for OzU faculty.
  • Tuition waivers are also available at the following rates for the following Turkish nationals and international students admitted to the graduate Law programs provided that they provide the proof of their eligibility at the time of application:

- 25% for full-time faculty of other universities,

- 25% for judges and prosecutors (applicable for individual applications not forwarded through the respective institution)

- 25% for attorneys or law apprentices affiliated with İstanbul Bar Association

PART-TIME ACADEMIC WORK

Turkish students are also awarded monthly net cash stipends of 500 TL for a period of 12 months in return for active participation in academic work on a part-time basis as per Article 46 of Law No:2547.  The continuance of cash stipends is subject to satisfactory fulfilment of the assigned roles and responsibilities, good academic standing, and a passing grade in the Academic Practice (AP 570) course. 

FACULTY TRAINEE SCHOLARSHIPS

In addition to cash stipends awarded for part-time academic work, eligible Turkish and international students are awarded Faculty Trainee Scholarships in the form of monthly net cash stipends of 1,500 TL for a period of 12 months and/or free housing in the OzU dormitories for a period of 12 months depending on their preference.  The continuance of this scholarship is also subject to good academic standing, and a passing grade in the Academic Practice (AP 570) course.

TURKISH JUSTICE ACADEMY COOPERATION PROTOCOL 

If the total number of students admitted to the same graduate program in the same academic semester is at least five (5), a 50% discount is offered off the announced program fees,

If the total number of students admitted to the same or different graduate program in the same academic semester is at least fifteen (15), a 60% discount is offered off the announced program fees.

SCHOLARSHIP TERM

Scholarships are awarded for the doctoral program’s maximum period of study, which is stipulated in the respective program’s rules and regulations, so long as the recipient maintains the minimum required academic standing and successfully completes the Academic Practice (AP 570) course. 

CONTINUTY AND TERMINATION OF SCHOLARSHIPS

The continuity of scholarships is re-evaluated by the respective department at the end of each fall and spring semester, and summer session within the framework of the following rules. The final decision about the continuity of scholarships is made pursuant to the approval of the Graduate School Executive Board upon the recommendation of the Department.

Failure to maintain 3.00 or at least a 3.00 grade point average will result in a tuition waiver reduction by 25%. Tuition waiver reduction is re-applied each semester in which the cumulative grade point average falls below 3.00. Scholarships may be reinstated once the cumulative grade point average goes 3.00 or above 3.00 again.

In the semester in which the cumulative grade point falls below 3.00, all additional scholarships awarded to the student will be terminated, excluding the tuition waiver. Terminated scholarship(s) may be reinstated once the cumulative grade point average goes above 3.00 again. 

Tuition waivers of the students who “fail” the Academic Practice (AP 570) course at the end of the semester are reduced by 50 percent, while all other scholarships awarded to the students are reduced by 50 percent of the full scholarship. Should the student pass the Academic Practice (AP 750) course in the following semester, all scholarships other than tuition waiver may be reinstated.
