At the end of this level, students will be able to …

• listen to short and clearly articulated spoken texts on familiar, everyday topics and understand their main points and key factual details, particularly when the speech is delivered slowly and clearly with a familiar accent.

• give short and simple descriptions and provide basic information about themselves, other people, places, routines, experiences, and everyday matters. Students can communicate in predictable situations using simple phrases and sentences to ask and answer questions and exchange basic information. Their speech may include pauses, repetition, hesitation, and repair, and they may require some support to maintain communication.

• read short, simple texts on familiar and concrete topics containing frequently used everyday vocabulary and understand their main points and key factual details. Students may require guidance to understand less familiar language or more detailed information.

• write simple, connected descriptive texts about familiar and everyday topics using a series of phrases and sentences linked with basic cohesive devices. Students can describe people, places, objects, routines, events, and simple processes and express basic opinions with simple reasons.
