All newly admitted international students in the 2017-2018 academic year must complete their enrollment in person by paying their tuition fees and submitting the required enrollment documents within the announced dates. Legal representatives must present their notarized powers of attorney at the time of enrollment.  Enrollment documents sent by mail will not be accepted.

4. Language Proficiency

English Language Proficiency Requirement for English-Medium Programs

All students who are enrolled in English-medium programs at Özyeğin University must satisfy the English Proficiency requirement.  The English language proficiency of all new students who are enrolled in English-medium programs is tested through Phase 1- English Placement Test (PLACEMENT) and Phase 2- English Proficiency Examination (TRACE) which are administered by the School of Languages at the beginning of the year of admission. Students who pass the examinations are kept exempt from the English Preparatory Program. These students directly matriculate to their undergraduate programs. Students who fail to achieve the minimum passing grade in the examinations are placed in the English Preparatory Program.

Students who have a valid score report of a national or international examination recognized by Özyeğin University may submit their score reports to the School of Languages between August 14 and 18 after they complete their enrollments in order to request to be exempted from the English Preparatory Program. For more about the recognized examinations, please refer to the section “Exemption from the English Preparatory Program” in this booklet.  Students whose score reports are not acceptable must sit the English Proficiency Examination administered by the University.

English Proficiency Requirement for Turkish-Medium Programs

The English Language Preparatory Program is optional for Turkish-medium Undergraduate Law and Architecture Programs. Students who opt to attend the English Language Preparatory Program must submit their intent to register in the English Language Preparatory Program either in person to the registrars in the enrollment area or via email at student.services@ozu.edu.tr between August 14 and August 18, 2017. These students must either sit the examinations administered by the University or submit a valid score report of a national or international examination recognized by the University in order to have the University determine their current level of English and the appropriate level for them in the English Preparatory Program.

Students enrolled in Turkish-medium programs are strongly recommended to sit the English proficiency examination administered by the University, even if they do not opt to attend the English Preparatory Program. Based on the examination results or the score reports of the national/international examinations:

  • Students enrolled in Turkish-medium programs may be kept exempt from the “ENG 103 English I” (For Turkish-medium programs) and “ENG 104 English II” courses (For Turkish-medium programs), which are the required courses in the curricula of Turkish-medium undergraduate programs.  Students may take another course in lieu of each exempted/waived course so long as the maximum credit load for the respective semester is not exceeded.
  • Students who passed TRACE are eligible to take the English-medium courses listed as electives in the curriculum of their programs.

For more about the recognized examinations, please refer to the section “Exemption from the English Preparatory Program” in this booklet.

Turkish Proficiency Requirement for Turkish-Medium Programs

Students who are enrolled in Turkish-medium programs must prove their Turkish proficiency at the time of enrollment. Students who obtained at least B1 (Intermediate) level score in the Turkish Proficiency Examinations administered by TÖMER or any other examination centers accredited by the Higher Education Council may start their undergraduate programs. The Turkish proficiency requirement is not applicable to students who completed their secondary education in Turkish-medium institutions in Turkey over the past three years.
