Do's and Don'ts List for Job Seekers in Phone Interviews

Here are the secrets of a successful phone interview: Candidates who follow these simple rules and guidelines can successfully complete the phone interview, which is one of the most important stages of the job search process.

To ensure that the interviewers can reach you easily, in your cover letter provide your contact information accurately and in detail.

Know which position/job you will be interviewed for.

If possible conduct a practice run. Ask a friend to conduct a mock interview with you over the phone. This will give you the feel of a phone interview.

For a phone interview, choose a place where you can read your notes, take notes, and concentrate.

If you do not have time for the phone interview, suggest to the recruiter a different time slot. It is always better for you to call the recruiter back. This way, you will be mentally more prepared.

To remember the main topics you want to mention to the interviewer, prepare notes or a general summary for yourself. Keep these notes/summaries in front of you. Your responses should not sound as if you are reading from a paper, but knowing the important topics you will discuss beforehand can be better than trying to think of them during the call. To easily recall your significant experiences and achievements, keep your resume in front of you as well.

Ensure that you can hear the interviewer well and that you are also clearly heard by the other side.

Stand up when conducting a phone interview. Some experts argue that candidates who stand up during an interview sound more professional than those who slouch in a chair.

When there is a silence during the interview, do not try to fill the silence. If you have finished your response and the interviewer has not yet asked the next question, do not speak unnecessarily to fill the gap. Instead, ask a question related to your last response.
