Resume (CV)

Resume (CV)

What is a CV (Resume)?

A CV (Curriculum Vitae / Resume) is a career profile that systematically and professionally summarizes an individual's education, experience, career goals, skills, and certificates. It is one of the most important tools through which employers or organizations offering internship/project/master's/volunteering activities gain their first impression of a candidate.

A CV does not merely list past experiences; it is also a personal promotional document that demonstrates how candidates express themselves, structure their information, and how ready they are for professional life.

Why Prepare a CV?

The primary purpose of a CV is to increase the probability of being invited to an interview by presenting the candidate's knowledge, skills, and experiences in a manner suitable for the targeted position. It is often the first point of contact between the candidate and the employer.

Recruitment specialists often spend only a few seconds reviewing a CV. Therefore, your CV must represent you accurately and effectively.

A well-prepared CV:

Allows the organization to make an accurate evaluation of the candidate in a short time.
Highlights strengths through education, experience, and competencies.
Helps the candidate successfully pass the initial screening stage.
Provides a competitive advantage in internship and job applications.
Makes academic and professional achievements visible.

What to Consider When Preparing an Effective CV?

1

Tailor it to your target

Update your CV according to the expectations of the position you are applying for and highlight your relevant experiences.

2

Be brief and clear

Present your information in a simple, organized, and easy-to-read format. Avoid unnecessary details.

3

Use up-to-date information

Your contact information, educational status, experiences, and skills must always be current. Additionally, make it a habit to update your CV as you participate in trainings, projects, volunteer work, receive certificates, and acquire new experiences.

4

Include concrete achievements

State not only your duties but also the results you achieved and your contributions.

5

Use a professional language

Pay attention to spelling and punctuation rules. Create a professional appearance by using a consistent language.

6

Prefer an organized and readable design

Headings, spacing, and font choices should make your CV easy to read. Opt for a simple and professional appearance instead of complex designs.

7

Share accurate and honest information

All information included in your CV must be verifiable. Misleading information damages your credibility.

What is an ATS (Applicant Tracking System) Compatible CV?

Many companies evaluate applications in the initial stage through Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). These systems analyze specific keywords, headings, and contents in CVs to suggest suitable candidates to human resources specialists.

Therefore, it is important that your CV is easily readable not only by humans but also by digital assessment systems. Reviewing the qualifications and duties specified in the job posting carefully and updating your CV in light of this information allows you to rank higher in ATS scoring.

OzU CV Format

Ozyegin University students and alumni are recommended to use the standard CV format suggested by our university in their career applications.

• Is structured in accordance with international recruitment standards.

• Has a simple design that allows employers to access information quickly.

• Allows students to present their academic and professional experiences in a balanced manner.

• Is prepared to be compatible with ATS systems.

We can summarize the framework we address in the OzU CV as follows:

One-Page Rule: Your CV should be a single page.

Photo-free CV: No photo should be added to the CV.

Required Sections: Contact information, career goal, education, work experience, project and research work, competencies and certificates, and extracurricular activities should be included in your CV; if nothing is to be written in any of these sections, that section should be completely removed from the CV.

Contact Information: Your contact information must be up-to-date; include a phone number where you can be reached when called. Use a professional email address (containing your first and last name). We recommend using your student email address with the "ozu" extension in OzU CVs.

Career Goal: In the Career Goal section, express your goal, prominent strengths, and the contribution you can make to the position you are applying for in a short and effective way. Especially in internship and new graduate applications, this section is an important opportunity to reflect your motivation and potential.

Education: Include your high school and university education in the education section. Compile your educational information here, such as academic achievements, scholarships, Exchange Programs (Erasmus, etc.), double major, and minor.

Chronology: Sections containing date information such as education, experience, and projects must be listed in reverse chronological order within themselves, with the most recent at the top. For example, university education should be at the top of the education section.

Work Experience: Do not limit the Work Experience section to your mandatory internships. Include all your experiences that give you responsibility, develop your professional skills, and prepare you for business life. In addition to internships, private tutoring, part-time sales consulting, duties in family or relative companies, part-time student work, and research assistantship can be included in this section.

Project and Research: In the project and research work tab, you can write projects, research, competitions within the scope of courses, or personal projects.

Job Descriptions: Use expressions that indicate your actions and responsibilities when listing your job descriptions in the work experiences and projects tab.

Competencies and Certificates: Consider the Competencies and Certificates section as an area to showcase your knowledge and skills that distinguish you from other candidates. Add computer programs, software, and digital tools that show your technical competence, as well as foreign language knowledge with their levels, in addition to vocational training, online courses, certificate programs, seminars, and workshops.

Extracurricular Activities: In the Extracurricular Activities section, share your sports, arts, volunteering, and social responsibility activities in which you took an active part during university and high school years, as well as your duties and leadership experiences in student clubs. These experiences offer valuable information for employers in terms of showing your teamwork, leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Personal Information: In the Personal Information tab, you can include date of birth and, if any, driver's license information (type and year). Nationality information can be added if you are applying for a position abroad.

References: Reference names should not be written on the CV, but should be sent separately later if requested.
