Case Studies

A case study is the analysis of a real or realistic business problem to develop recommended solutions. It is widely used in interviews for consulting, finance, marketing, and product management roles.

Objectives:

  • Evaluating your analytical thinking skills
  • Observing your problem-solving approach
  • Assessing your communication and structuring abilities

How is a Case Study Conducted?

Generally, interviews follow this flow:

1
Understanding the Problem
  • Listen to the prompt carefully
  • Ask for any missing details or context
Example: “The company's profits are declining; what could be the cause?”
2
Structuring (Framework)

You are expected to break the problem down into components. The most common approach:

  • Revenue
  • Cost
3
Conducting Analysis
  • Interpret data
  • Perform numerical calculations
  • Test hypotheses
4
Conclusion & Recommendation
  • State a clear conclusion
  • Provide 2–3 actionable recommendations

Most Common Case Types

Profitability Case

• “Why is the company losing money?”

Market Entry

• “Should we enter a new country?”

Growth Case

• “How can we increase sales?”
