A/Prof Diego Mejía-Lemos LLM PhD has practiced, researched and taught international law and international dispute resolution in the Americas, Asia and Europe for over a decade. He has been conferred graduate degrees by, among others, New York University (NYU) and the National University of Singapore (NUS), having received funding in the form of the most prestigious scholarships and fellowships accorded by both NYU and NUS. He has participated in the representation of states before international courts and tribunals, notably while working at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s public international law and international arbitration group, in Paris, France. He has also provided support to arbitral tribunals conducting proceedings, mostly under international investment agreements, under the auspices of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), as a member of the PCA International Bureau’s legal staff in The Hague, The Netherlands. Latterly, he has held a post-doctoral fellowship at NUS and been appointed as a Distinguished Research Associate Professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), within the framework of XJTU’s ‘Young Talent’ programme, in which capacity he acts as principal investigator of projects funded by two major research grants, including a University-level grant at XJTU and a Ministry of Science and Technology grant. He has maintained fruitful collaborations with projects funded by the European Research Council and Oxford University Press (OUP), notably as a reporter for OUP's Oxford Reports on International Organisations and Investment Claims. His more than 50 publications have appear in world leading scholarly journals, mostly indexed by the Social Sciences Citation Index, such as the American Journal of International Law, Asian Journal of International Law, German Yearbook of International Law, Indian Journal of International Law, Human Rights Law Review and Review of European, Comparative & International Environmental Law, among others. He has held visiting appointments at Groningen University (Visiting Research Fellow within an European Research Council-funded project), Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Visiting Research Professor) and SciencesPo (Senior Visiting Fellow).He frequently judges international moot court competitions, including the world's largest ones, such as the Jessup and FDI Moot (judging up to the championship in national and regional competitions and advanced Jessup global rounds). He regularly presents his scholarship throughout Asia, the Americas and Europe, notably at events organised by partner ERC-funded research projects and the European Society of International Law. He has latterly been appointed by the Xi'an Arbitration Commission (XAAC) to the XAAC panel of international arbitrators. He is fluent in English, French (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française C1), Spanish (native) and increasingly proficient in Mandarin Chinese (having self-studied up to HSK 5).
