Pınar Büyükkbalci, Yönetim ve Uluslararası İşletme alanında doktora derecesine sahiptir. Araştırmaları, özellikle teknoloji girişimlerine odaklanarak, uluslararası işletme, uluslararası girişimcilik ve girişimcilik ekosistemlerini kapsamaktadır. Akademik araştırmaları ve bilim parkları, kuluçka merkezleri ve yerel ve uluslararası girişimcilik topluluklarıyla yaptığı profesyonel iş birlikleri aracılığıyla İstanbul'da ve uluslararası alanda girişimcilik ekosistemleriyle yakından ilgilenmiştir.
Son on yılda, çeşitli ulusal ve uluslararası araştırma ve öğretim projelerinde yer almıştır. Fulbright Bursiyeri, İngiliz Akademisi Bursiyeri ve Uluslararası İşletme Akademisi (AIB) Dijitalleşme Özel İlgi Grubu Yönetim Kurulu Üyesidir. Ayrıca Georgia Eyalet Üniversitesi Robinson İşletme Fakültesi'nde Misafir Araştırmacı olarak görev yapmıştır.
