Letícia von Krüger Pimentel, Ms.C., is a public servant of the Brazilian National Institute
of Historical and Artistic Heritage (Iphan) since 2004, working at the regional
superintendency in Rio de Janeiro since 2010. She is an architect (Santa Úrsula
Univesity, 1997) and conservation officer, has a Latu Sensu Post Graduation in
Preservation of Cultural Heritage Integrated with Urban Planning (Federal University
of Pernambuco / Center for Studies in Integrated Conservation, 2002), and a Master
in Architecture Sciences with an emphasis on History and Preservation of Cultural
Heritage (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, 2005). She has a broad experience in
issues related to cultural heritage management, having held leadership positions
throughout her career. During this period, she could accompany innumerable works,
among which, the restoration of the Christ the Redeemer Statue, the elaboration of
the management plan of the World Heritage site of Rio de Janeiro and the heritage
protection action during the organization of the two great events held in Rio in 2014
(World Cup) and 2016 (Olympics). In the last few years, she has been dedicated to
studies and analysis to support the proposal of urban legislation for preserved areas
and for protected environments of heritage properties. This last experiences led to
the reflections she now develops in her Ph.D. studies at the Federal University of Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil. At the moment, she is attendig a study period at Birmingham City
University, as an independent researcher.
